# Templates

A **Frappe Sign Template** lets you define a reusable field layout once, instead of placing the same fields by hand on every new request for a recurring document type.

A template defines:

- **Template Name**, **Source DocType**, **Print Format**, **Description**, **Enabled**.
- **Signers** - a child table of *placeholder* signer labels (e.g. "Employee", "Manager", "Witness", "HR Representative") rather than real Signer Profiles.
- **Fields** - the actual field layout, placed with the same Designer used for requests (in *template mode* - see **The Signing Designer**).

Once saved, the template is ready to reuse:

## Using a template

When a Configured Source DocType has **Require Template** enabled with a **Default Template** set (see **Configured Source DocTypes**), a new request built from that DocType starts from the template's field layout automatically - the sender then maps each placeholder label ("Employee", "Manager", ...) to a real Frappe Sign Profile before sending, instead of placing every field from scratch.
